Our Perplexity review
Perplexity is a strong AI search option: strongest at market research, weakest on weaker at creative writing.
We score Perplexity 4.6 out of 5 — excellent ease of use, strong performance and strong value for money.
What Perplexity is
Perplexity is Perplexity AI's AI search product, launched in 2022. An answer engine that cites its sources, with Deep Research reports and focus modes for academic work.
It is aimed at beginner users — the learning curve is very gentle. Day one you would use it for market research, literature review and competitor scans. It runs on Web, iOS and Android, including a mobile app, and there is an API if you want it inside your own systems.
Where it shines
The core strengths are easy to state: sources on every claim and great for fact-checking. The feature set behind that is cited answers, deep Research, focus modes and spaces.
We rate performance 4.6/5 and answer accuracy around 92% for the tasks in this category, which is why it holds up for market research and literature review.
Where it falls short
The honest downsides: weaker at creative writing.
Nothing here needs training, so the risk is not difficulty — it is paying for capability you never use.
Pricing and value for money
