Our Wordtune review
If you need email polish, Wordtune is one of the safest picks in AI writing assistants — with the caveat that narrow feature set.
We score Wordtune 4.3 out of 5 — excellent ease of use, solid performance and solid value for money.
What Wordtune is
Wordtune is AI21 Labs' AI writing assistants product, launched in 2020. Rewriting assistant that suggests alternative phrasings, adjusts tone and summarises long documents as you write.
It is aimed at beginner users — the learning curve is gentle. Day one you would use it for email polish, academic writing and report summaries. It runs on Web, Chrome, iOS and Android, including a mobile app, and there is no public API.
Where it shines
What you are really paying for here: excellent for non-native English writers and works inside Gmail and Docs. The feature set behind that is rewrite suggestions, tone control, summariser, browser extension and editor add-ins.
We rate performance 4.2/5 and answer accuracy around 85% for the tasks in this category, which is why it holds up for email polish and academic writing.
Where it falls short
It is not without cost or compromise: narrow feature set and free plan is limited.
Nothing here needs training, so the risk is not difficulty — it is paying for capability you never use.
Pricing and value for money
Pricing is Free · Advanced $13.99/mo · Unlimited $24.99/mo. At $13.99 a month that is $167.88 a year per person, cheaper than most of its category (the category median is about $39). A free tier exists, so you can test it properly before paying.
If budget is the constraint, Grammarly at $12/mo does much of the same work. Our cost calculator will show what adding Wordtune does to your monthly stack before you commit.
