Our Tableau Pulse review
Tableau Pulse earns its place in the AI data & analytics shortlist for KPI monitoring, provided requires Tableau Cloud is not a dealbreaker.
We score Tableau Pulse 4.0 out of 5 — solid ease of use, solid performance and acceptable value for money.
What Tableau Pulse is
Tableau Pulse is Salesforce's AI data & analytics product, launched in 2024. AI layer on Tableau that watches your metrics, writes plain-language insight digests and answers follow-up questions.
It is aimed at intermediate users — the learning curve is moderate. Day one you would use it for KPI monitoring, weekly business reviews and anomaly alerts. It runs on Web, iOS and Android, including a mobile app, and there is an API if you want it inside your own systems.
Where it shines
In testing against the rest of the category, two things stand out: proactive alerts instead of static dashboards and fits existing Tableau estates. The feature set behind that is metric monitoring, insight digests, natural-language Q&A, slack delivery and anomaly detection.
We rate performance 4.3/5 and answer accuracy around 88% for the tasks in this category, which is why it holds up for KPI monitoring and weekly business reviews.
Where it falls short
Where it frustrated us: requires Tableau Cloud and metric setup takes effort.
Expect a real ramp-up — we rate the learning curve moderate. Budget time for it before judging the tool.
Pricing and value for money
Pricing is Included with Tableau Creator $75/user/mo. At $75 a month that is $900 a year per person, at the expensive end of its category (the category median is about $36). There is no free tier, so trial it deliberately before committing.
If budget is the constraint, Hex at $36/mo does much of the same work. Our cost calculator will show what adding Tableau Pulse does to your monthly stack before you commit.
Who should use Tableau Pulse
Tableau Pulse is the right call for KPI monitoring, weekly business reviews and anomaly alerts. Skip it if requires Tableau Cloud is a bigger problem for you than proactive alerts instead of static dashboards is a benefit.
The alternatives worth comparing are ThoughtSpot ($95/mo) and Hex ($36/mo). Put them side by side before you buy.
Worth a trial: Tableau Pulse at $75/mo is best used for KPI monitoring and weekly business reviews, and it earns 4.0/5 from us.
